I never knew my grandfather, Albert B. Cleage Sr played football in college until someone sent me copies of the Knoxville College paper. It seems he was even the captain of the team. After finishing Knoxville College he attended Indiana Medical College, Purdue University, in Indianapolis, IN. While there he met my grandmother, Pearl Reed. They were among the founding members of Witherspoon United Presbyterian Church and in 1910, soon after he graduated and became a licensed physician, they married.
