Moving blog!
In the past 30 days, three blogs that I follow have had their google accounts (including gmail, google+ and blogger blogs) suspended with no reason given either upon suspension or reinstatement. The latest was geneabloger SusanClark at Nolichucky Roots. Although I like the Blogger platform and have gotten very comfortable with it, I've decided to move my blog to WordPress, both because of my disgust with Goggle's seemingly capricious behavior and because I don't want to wait around and see if I get "choosen". I've moved all my posts over to my new blog. I'm still feeling my way around but I hope that you all will come over and read my posts, once I make some new ones. It just hit me that this time next week we will be in the middle of the Christmas celebration so there probably won't be too many posts this week! All suggestions and comments welcome. The new blog is still named Finding Eliza <---click to get there.

Does the Word Press Blog have a mechanism for moving the entire blog? I had heard about Susan Clarks misadventure but not the others. Sounds like some problem with Google...
ReplyDeleteYes it does. After you set up your blog on WordPress you use the import/export function and it will transfer all of the posts and photos over to WordPress. It leaves the originals here.
ReplyDeleteI had my blog suspended a few years ago (accused of being a spam blog), but I still like blogger best. Two theories I had about my suspension (just theories)... The "report abuse" button could be hit by accident. I could have linked to a blog that had a dangerous widget or link.
ReplyDeleteHi Kristin, I am so-o-o-o glad to see you take that giant step over to self-hosting your own blog website. As a former online book promoter for authors and small publishing companies, I assisted clients regularly with the setup and sometimes maintenance of their own self-hosted websites and blogs. I have nothing against blogger.com, wordpress.com, and other blog services out there. In fact, when I started blogging about my family's history Jan 1, 2011 I used LiveJournal.com. But I did that just to see if genealogy blogging was really for me. After 3 short months, I was hooked and by late April, early May 2011 I setup webhosting at HostGator.com (this company is located down the freeway from where I currently work), installed the free wordpress.org software platform, and simply used the built-in plugin to transfer all of my post from LiveJournal to my new site. Then I found a really cool free theme that I had a web designer friend customize in my fav colors (chocolate brown and candy apple green)and developed a cool header and logo that I use as my brand. The sky is the limit as to what you can do with your very own self-hosted blog site. So enjoy your new space in cyberspace. I have already added your new site to my Google Reader!
ReplyDeleteThank you Liv! I'm enjoying it, especially since I think I have everything figured out now.
